Rosa Parks
In the garden, After School
Global Gardens serves approximately 30 students in a free program every afternoon at Rosa Parks Elementary. The students spent the spring exploring what a garden is and how they could use it to better their school and community. In April 2008 the gardens were tilled and in May they were dedicated as a place of peace for the community during the Celebration of Hope.
Students committed to the after-school program have their own plot in the garden, which they are responsible for developing and maintaining under the direction of the Global Gardens staff and volunteers.
Our after-school program functions as a community, beginning each day eating an after-school snack together before sharing our goals for the day as a group. After an afternoon of working, playing and dreaming we end the day with an appreciation circle.
